SAVANNAH, Ga. — The Savannah State University National Alumni Association recently announced its newly established 125th Anniversary Scholarship Campaign, which will run from May 1 until October 1. The campaign seeks to involve alumni and friends of Savannah State University in bridging the financial gaps faced by an increasing percentage of today’s college students and their families by raising $125,000 to be used by the university to fund student scholarships and other academic support needs.

“The alumni of Savannah State University are working to secure additional opportunities for deserving students to attend the ‘University by the Sea’ ” said Clyde Newton, the newly elected president of the SSUNAA. “For 125 years, Savannah State University has provided comprehensive college educations to students from all over the world. Many of these students went on to become educators, business professionals, and leaders in their state, nation, and abroad.”

An initiative of the SSUNAA, the 125th Anniversary Scholarship Campaign is designed to demonstrate the alumni association’s support for the university. All donations are tax-deductible and donations of any amount may be made through any local chapter of the alumni association, by checks made payable to “Savannah State University,” or online at give.savannahstate.edu/ssunaa-125th.

“In order to meet its mission and provide a challenging and rewarding educational experience for students, we rely on the generosity of individuals and businesses for support,” said Newton. “Because of the assistance of community-minded individuals just like you, we are able to meet the needs of our students each year.”

The Savannah State University National Alumni Association is a national organization whose primary purpose is to promote the welfare of Savannah State University and assist in advancing the university’s mission and the goals. The SSUNAA is a membership based organization with chapters around the United States representing more than 22,000 alumni worldwide.

More than ever, the SSUNAA is committed to the future of SSU as it continues to play an important part of educating our nation’s youth and producing future business executives, scientists and philanthropists. Now, and well into the future, the SSUNAA will help arm the next generation of leaders with the tools they need to succeed.
