MACON, Ga. — The Savannah State University National Alumni Association Metro-Macon Chapter will present the 2017 Summerfest July 14-15. The annual Scholarship Dance will take place on July 14, beginning at 8 p.m. at the LaPiada Conference Center (4295 Interstate Drive, Macon). The chapter’s Bid Whist Tournament will be held at the Tatnall Square Park pavilion from 11 am until 1 p.m. with the Annual Chapter Picnic in the Park beginning at 4 p.m.
The annual Scholarship Dance is the chapter’s opportunity to celebrate the academic achievement of Macon-area students. Each year the chapter awards scholarship to students from the Middle Georgia region who plan to attend Savannah State University. Tickets for the dance are $25 per person and a cash bar will be available.
The Bid Whist Tournament is an opportunity to socialize with members of the chapter and the community and a prizes will be awarded to the tournament winners. The team entry cost for the tournament is $10. The Annual Chapter Picnic in the Park promises an afternoon of fun, games and food. Admission to the picnic is free.
Hotel accommodations for the Summerfest weekend are available at the Comfort Inn & Suites West (5000 Harrison Rd, Macon). The special discount rate is $85 (plus taxes) per night.

WASHINGTON — The Savannah State University National Alumni Association Washington DC Chapter will host its annual Scholarship Dinner from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Friday, April 7 at the Trinidad Baptist Church in Northeast.
Proceeds from the dinner will go to the District of Columbia Alumni Chapter of Savannah State University National Alumni Association Scholarship Award which provides financial assistance to attend Savannah State University to deserving, graduating high school seniors and college students residing in the metro-Washington, DC area. ATLANTA — Registration is now available for the 2017 Savannah State University National Alumni Association Southern Region Conference, which will be held March 24-25, at the Atlanta Airport Marriott in Atlanta. This two-day conference was created to enhance professional and personal development and provide opportunities to build leadership skills to build chapters and communities.
Early registration for the conference is $65, if postmarked or paid online before March 14. The regular registration rate is $80 if paid after March 13. FORT VALLEY, Ga. — The 32nd Annual GAAHBSU (Georgia Alumni Association of Historically Black State Universities) Legislative Conference will be held on January 24 – 26, 2017, at the Ramada Plaza Atlanta Capital Park Hotel (Downtown Atlanta). Fort Valley State University National Alumni Association, Inc. is the host Association for GAAHBSU 2017. The theme for this year’s conference is “Envisioning Our Future, Embracing Our Legacy, and Expanding our Horizon”.
GAAHBSU is a consortium of the National Alumni Associations of Albany State University, Fort Valley State University, and Savannah State University. It is organized to advance their missions and to help ensure the futures of these historically significant institutions. The legislative conference provides a forum for alumni and officials of Georgia’s Historically Black Public Universities to dialogue with elected officials and key state leaders to address the universities’ common goals and concerns.
