SAVANNAH, Ga. — Linda Denton was recently announced as the winner of the joint Savannah State University National Alumni Association / Delaware State University Alumni Association Florida Chapter fundraiser raffle. Mrs. Denton, a member of SSUNAA Valdosta Alumni Chapter, won a three day / two night package at the Star Island Resort and Spa in the Kissimmee/Orlando, Fla. area. The winning ticket was drawn and announced on February 10 at halftime of the Savannah State University Winter Homecoming basketball game between Savannah State University and Morgan State University.

SSUNAA Central and Suncoast Florida Chapter set to host 2017 Holiday Breakfast

ORLANDO, Fla. — The Savannah State University National Alumni Association Central and Suncoast Florida Chapter will hold the 2017 Holiday Breakfast and Toys for Tot Collection on December 9 beginning at 10 a.m. at Fred’s Market Restaurant (835 Currency Circle, Lake Mary). Participants are asked to bring an unwrapped toy to donate to Toys for Tots Program.

The Holiday Breakfast is the chapter’s annual opportunity to fellowship with the Central Florida Tiger family.

RSVPs are requested by December 8 and can be submitted online at eventbrite.com.

SSUNAA Life Member Marshall Pollard passes in Jacksonville, Fla.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Marshall Pollard, a long standing member of SSUNAA Jacksonville Chapter and a life member of the Savannah State University National Alumni Association, died on May 24 in Jacksonville, Fla.

A native of Columbus, Ga., Pollard attended Savannah State on an athletic scholarship and played football and golf. He graduated in 1974 with a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics. Pollard made history at Savannah State by becoming one of the first four officers to receive a commission through the Savannah State NROTC Unit and retired as Navy Commander in 1995.

A memorial service was held on Saturday, May 31 at New Hope Baptist Church in Manchester, Ga. in his honor.

Tiger sympathies were extended to his wife Helen (Anderson) Pollard and the Pollard family.

Savannah State University National Alumni Association Authorizes Central-Suncoast Florida Chapter

SAVANNAH, Ga. — The Savannah State University National Alumni Association will host a chartering ceremony for the Central-Suncoast Florida Chapter at 1 p.m. on Saturday, June 30, at Mt. Sinai Missionary Baptist Church, 5200 W. South St., in Orlando.

The new chapter will create an organized network for communications between and among the alumni, administration, faculty, staff and students of Savannah State and the Central–Suncoast, Florida community.

The Executive Committee of the Savannah State University National Alumni Association authorized the establishment of the chapter during its annual May conference in Savannah.

The purpose of the Savannah State University National Alumni Association is to promote the welfare of Savannah State University and to assist in advancing the mission and goals of the university’s administration.
