How to start/create a chapter?
How to start/create a chapter?

Chartering or reactivating an SSUNAA chapter is a multi-step process.

First, an interest group must be formed with 8 or more persons (alumni) that meet the criteria for at least Annual membership into SSUNAA.  However, when there is an existing chapter within a 30-mile radius, a minimum of 15 persons (alumni) must meet the criteria for at least Annual membership into the SSUNAA in order to charter/reactivate a chapter.

The interest group must contact their respective Regional Vice President to formally express interest in forming a new chapter or reactivating an existing one. The Regional Vice President will confirm each person in the interest group meets the membership criteria and eligibility and will also confirm the service area of the proposed chapter is at least 30 miles outside of any existing chapters in the area. The Regional Vice President will present the group's letter of interest/intent to charter to the Executive Committee and call for a formal vote to approve the chapter. Upon approval, the interest group will be notified, and the official chartering/installation process will begin.

We have chartered a new SSUNAA chapter, what's next?
We have chartered a new SSUNAA chapter, what's next?

Congratulations! Now the work begins!

Please contact the Savannah State University Director of Alumni Relations, Marius Davis, to schedule time for your chapter to complete the university's official recruitment training required for all SSU recruiting partners. The training was established by the university to ensure all partners are knowledgeable of our formal recruitment process and sharing unified and consistent messaging about SSU.

Additionally, we invite you to visit the Savannah State University campus as a newly chartered SSUNAA chapter to create new memories as Alumni, meet students and faculty members, and learn of any new institutional or logistical campus updates.

Recruitment and Retention are our most critical priorities. We encourage chapters to set short and long term goals to recruit students to Savannah State University, and launch fundraising initiatives to provide scholarships to students.

Successful SSUNAA chapters are engaged in local and national recruitment and fundraising efforts; hold productive monthly chapter meetings and attend annual SSUNAA meetings; award annual scholarships to deserving students. Please reference our national Constitution and Bylaws and Handbook for additional guidance.
