TIFTON, Ga. — Former SSUNAA Southern Region Vice President Ida Ruth Dowers died on December 16 in Tifton, Ga..

MACON, Ga. — Official SSUNAA Tiger sympathies were recently extended to Reverend Bertram Cornell Smith and the family of Wendolyn Mitchell Smith who died on December 6, in Macon. Smith was a member of the SSUNAA Macon Metro Chapter and a life member of the Savannah State University National Alumni Association.
A native of Columbus, Ga., Smith earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education in 1977 from Savannah State College. She also earned a Master of Science degree from Fort Valley State University; and an Education Specialist degree in Counseling from Troy State University.
A memorial service will be held at St Mark AME Church (3605 Campbellton Rd. SW, Atlanta) at 10 a.m. on Thursday, December 14. The closing funeral services will be at 2 p.m. at the Macon Centreplex (200 Coliseum Dr., Macon).
ORLANDO, Fla. — The Savannah State University National Alumni Association Central and Suncoast Florida Chapter will hold the 2017 Holiday Breakfast and Toys for Tot Collection on December 9 beginning at 10 a.m. at Fred’s Market Restaurant (835 Currency Circle, Lake Mary). Participants are asked to bring an unwrapped toy to donate to Toys for Tots Program.
The Holiday Breakfast is the chapter’s annual opportunity to fellowship with the Central Florida Tiger family.

SAVANNAH, Ga. — Savannah State University hosted the annual Founder’s Day observance on November 16 to celebrates the history of the institution and those who have contributed to its success.
The university presented the Cyrus C. Wiley Distinguished Alumni Award to Wilburn Joe Eason, a 1973 graduate for his extraordinary support and loyalty to SSU. Dr. Margaret C. Robinson, a 1952 of Savannah State, and retired U.S. Navy Capt. Donnie Cochran, a 1976 graduate, were the recipients of Richard R. Wright Award of Excellence.
