SAVANNAH, Ga. — On July 1, the SSUNAA kicked off its “Rise Up” campaign to raise $130 in 130 days. After seven weeks, the association announced that more the $90,000 dollars have been raised.
In May, Clyde Newton, the national president of the SSUNAA, convened a fundraising team of alumni to help develop strategic plans to raise much-needed funds for Savannah State Univesity, thus evolved the SSUNAA “Rise Up” Campaign.
“No matter what obstacles are placed before us, SSUNAA has always positioned itself to support our institution,” said Newton in a message to the organization. “This is evidenced by the outstanding financial support that we are realizing with our 130th Anniversary “Rise Up” Campaign.”
Chapter presidents eagerly jumped on board to help raise $130K in commemoration of the 130th anniversary of SSU and to raise it in 130 days (July 1 — November 8). Funds raised will be allocated to student scholarships.
“SSUNAA, SSU Community Boosters, alumni, the community and friends of SSU have answered the call to provide funding to provide merit and need-based, athletic and band scholarships,” said Newton. “This campaign will ensemble many students to continue their pursuits of achieving a quality education. Please know that your kindness is greatly appreciated and that you are truly impacting the lives of our students in a positive way.”
Alumni across the country are encouraged to “Rise Up” to help make the 130th Anniversary campaign a great success. This campaign is an incredible way to amplify our voices in support of our beloved alma mater SSU.
