SAVANNAH, Ga. — The Savannah State University National Alumni Association will co-sponsor the Savannah State University Health Fair on Friday, October 25, from 10 am to 5 pm in Adams Hall on the campus of Savannah State University. The SSUNAA will join  Savannah State alumnus Dr. Elgin Andrews (class of 1992) of the Georgia Gwinnett College Exercise Science Program and the American Medical Student Association to sponsor the event.

Multiple tests and exams will be available including body composition testing, an alumni health survey, and the Weight Loss Analysis Exam. The Weight Loss Analysis Exam, a fasting only test, will take ten minutes to perform. If interested in this exam, please do not eat anything prior to testing and show up between 9:30 am and noon to register.

2019 SSU Founder’s Day Awards nominations currently being accepted

SAVANNAH, Ga. — Each year Savannah State University takes a day to recognize those who have served the school and made its foundation stronger while honoring the legacy of our founders. With two awards, the Richard R. Wright Award of Excellence and the Cyrus G. Wiley Distinguished Alumni Award, the university celebrates the history of the institution and those who have contributed to its success.

This year Savannah State University will celebrate Founders Day on Thursday, November 14. This event is free and open to the public. The ceremony includes a guest speaker and the presentation of awards to members of the community.

To nominate individuals for these two awards contact the Savannah State University Office of Alumni Relations. The deadline for nominations is October 28.

The Richard R. Wright Award of Excellence honors corporate and community citizens, alumni, and outstanding leaders who have distinguished themselves through their expertise in social, educational and civic arenas.

The Cyrus G. Wiley Distinguished Alumni Award recognizes outstanding alumni who have shown extraordinary support and loyalty to the Savannah State University, and who have become exemplary examples of the lofty ideals espoused by the university. The award also extols the achievements and contributions such distinguished alumni have made nationally, regionally and locally.


Established in 1890, Savannah State University is the oldest public historically black college or university in Georgia and the oldest institution of higher learning in the city of Savannah. The university’s 4,000 students select majors from 30 undergraduate and six graduate programs in four colleges ‐ Liberal Arts and Social Sciences, Business Administration, Sciences and Technology, and Education.

SSU Homecoming Parade applications available until Oct 11

SAVANNAH, Ga. — The application deadline for the Savannah State University Homecoming Parade is Friday, October 11. The parade will be held on October 26, beginning at 9 am through downtown Savannah.

Parade packages will be available for pickup October 22-24, in the Adams Hall lobby between 11 am and 4 pm.

SAVANNAH, Ga.  Savannah State University hosted the annual Founder’s Day observance on November 16 to celebrates the history of the institution and those who have contributed to its success.

The university presented the Cyrus C. Wiley Distinguished Alumni Award to Wilburn Joe Eason, a 1973 graduate for his extraordinary support and loyalty to SSU. Dr. Margaret C. Robinson, a 1952 of Savannah State, and retired U.S. Navy Capt. Donnie Cochran, a 1976 graduate, were the recipients of Richard R. Wright Award of Excellence.
